LEGAL OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

In 2021, Mudlarks Coaching & Advisory and Polaris Legal formed the MPL Partnership to bring together decades of experience in the legal industry, both from the private practice and in-house perspectives.

The MPL Partnership offers extensive skills and experience arising from the partners experience as the Legal Pricing Manager at a Barclays Bank; roles in international law firms, including Senior Legal Project Manager, Head of Legal Project Management (APAC), and Head of Legal Project Management and Legal Process Improvement (APAC); practising lawyer roles in Australian, UK, and elite global firms; and in-house GC roles.

For both law firms and in-house clients, we offer:

  • ·       Legal project management of matters and projects for a phase, workstream, or the whole project, whether for a short or longer-term engagement. Examples could include arbitrations, litigations, and regulatory investigations. We use our proprietary matter management operating model to ensure that not only is the project delivered, but that reporting, communication, and continuous improvement occur throughout the project

  • Development of legal leaders: we have developed and delivered, in partnership with the Law Society of New South Wales, a 6-month program comprising of leadership training and coaching for high-potential in-house counsel

  • Modular training aligned with CLE requirements

  • Interim ‘Head of Service’ or project team leader resources

  • Legal Process Improvement management

  • Legal Project Manager training either as part of initial induction training or as part of continuing professional development on coaching skills, communications, leadership, and other non-technical skills; and

  • Legal Project Management skills for lawyers, commercial business unit managers, or others involved in large scale complex.

Additionally, the partnership offers the following services specifically for in-house departments:

  • Legal Operations advisory (using our Review-Optimise-Enhance framework) to develop a legal department’s capabilities to manage future law firm relationships

  • Independent review of law firm, legal services providers, and legal eco-system performance

  • Strategic review of Legal Project, Legal Process and Legal Operations Management services using either the Corporate Legal Operations Consortium or Association for Corporate Counsel frameworks
